When the Giants Come to Town, It's Bye-Bye Baby

Post Game 5/30: Big Money

Barry Zito may not be worth $126 million for eight years, but once in a while he sure pitches like it. The Mets had not been shut out this year until tonight. Zito threw 100+ pitches through six innings, but the Giants needed more. He went out for the seventh, gave up a leadoff double, then shut the Mets down. Seven Ks, only one walk, oh yeah he’s the PLODAG.

But there are runners-up. Have the Giants found a new closer? Brad Hennessey started the ninth by striking out Carlos Delgado with a nasty slider that Jon Miller said broke “like a Robb Nen slider. I don’t know if that should be a legal pitch.”

Again, the offense sputtered, but it was against Tom Glavine, who’s kinda good, I hear. My blog network comrade Loge 13 (“The Last Days of Shea”) is following the series from the other side. Check out this video of girl scouts talking trash to Barry Bonds. Tough town.

After last night’s disaster, is it possible that the Giants can actually take this series?

LATE NIGHT UPDATE: After much deliberation here at El Lefty Loteria Central, Lyle is the winner of last week’s caption contest. Lyle, whenever you want a beer, let me know.
