When the Giants Come to Town, It's Bye-Bye Baby

Post-Game 5/2: Call It a Comeback

And I’m just getting warm.

Fourth inning: Instant Home Run, Just Add Barry. As Krukow said on TV, “A screaming seed.”

Eighth inning: Perhaps the least impressive hit by Bonds all year, a ground-ball single, and it’s perhaps the most important. Then Bengie Molina: how many two-out RBI singles is this guy going to get this year? I’m impressed.

PLODAG: So many to choose from. BLB, of course, and Molina with two hits and a key two-out RBI, and Randy Winn with three hits. But I’m going with Barry Zito: Seven innings, only two runs, a quietly quality start after two straight nights of hard bullpen work. The Giants needed this, and Zito came through. Hon. mention to Brad Hennessey for his stellar late-game work.

OK, Molina gets another big two out hit.
BUT
1.will anybody else ever get a run home from 3rd with less than two outs?
2. can we get rid of Neikro now?
3. Isn't it time for Frandsen to come up? I listened to the game on the radio and heard, "That play shows Aurilia's lack of playing time at short" He's no longer viable as a middle infielder.

opps, sorry 'bout that, I must have had lead in my finger and held down the key (you know like Roberts having lead in his _____ and staying on base the other day in AZ instead of scoring).

Another great game by Zito, who has terrible historical stats for April.

Get this--before 2007 his career ERA for April was 5.04 (1.39 WHIP, op. batting average of .254). So far this year his line is 3.52 / 1.23 / .217!

Dare we hope for a career year, sparked by his move to the National League and the benefits of AT&T Park?

Molina is THE MAN. He gives us that classy, but tenacious swagger.

I couldn't agree more about our need for Frandsen. It's funny because Niekro is our best first baseman, but he's still the odd man out. Even Linden has more value because he can run and play OF. And is it just me or does Linden seem like our next Pedro Feliz?

Does anyone else think we can package Niekro and Ortiz for a hitter?

If by "a hitter" you mean "a hitter who would instantly become the second-best hitter on the Giants behind Bonds," then no.

Frandsen? Are you guys out of your minds? FRANDSEN? We need Frandsen?

I'd like to see the Giants get a real hitter, any real hitter. Package any of the following players, depending on what position the player we get plays.

If we get a third baseman, then we can package Feliz with Ortiz, Niekro, Linden, and, if the guys is really good, then you could even throw in Lowry.

If we get an corner outfielder, add Winn and subtract Feliz.

If we could get, say (incredible longshot, I know) Andruw Jones, I'd be willing to give up Roberts (obviously) and any combination of Ortiz, Lowry, Winn, Linden, Neikro, Feliz, (yeah, we put Richie at third and play him and Klesko every day).

Winn has a no-trade clause.

WHOOOOA big fella. I only mean we need Frandsen as a viable middle infielder Back up instead of using Richie at SS. Heck yeah, I'm for trading Morris, Lowry, Feliz, Neikro for a name hitter and bring the KID up now.

John, where is your dealership? I want to trade my 6 1997 Olds' - dents and bald tires and all - and a couple of '95s if you need it to make the deal, for your brand new BMW 7 series

You beat me to it, Frank, I was gonna say the exact same thing. I love how people suggest the Giants trade their three worst hitters and their worst starting pitcher for some other team's star. What do they think, all the other major league teams are simply there to act as our personal farm system?

Wouldn't it be great if the world were really like this: My wife's getting a little thick around the hips, I should ask Brad Pitt if he wants to trade me Angelina Jolie for her straight up. Sounds like a good deal to me.

You made me laugh out loud at work and got me in trouble, Josh. But worth it. Really, when we were doing what has become fantasy league and I was 13 and my brother was 9, I could trade all of my trash for his #2 hitter.
Trade value:
Feliz: AA hitter, 277 BA
Lowery: AAA starter, 4.20 ERA.
Winn: major league # 4 starter, or #6, 7, or 8 hitter, depending on defense.
Morris + Sanchez: M Alou
Sanchez: Hillenbrand

Geez, you guys are harsh. I was just trying to make a point. That we need to do something about our anemic offense. We DO have something people would want, pitching, starting pitching, and you guys are, in my opinion, a little too critical of some of the players I mentioned.

On the Yankees, Lowry and Ortiz would be immediately penciled into the rotation, If we were able to get A-Rod, (I know it's a longshot, but still) we would have to give them Feliz, and he would be fine for the Yankees who have, if anything, TOO much offense.

Any time you are trying to trade for a big time player, the trade is gonna look bad for whoever givcs up the stud. They are doing it to save money or because they HAVE to, not because they think the guys you are giving them are better.

The Yankees trade A-Rod this season if they think they have no chance of resigning him, and the desperately need starting pitching, and he can get them the most. With the Yankee offense, Lowry, Morris, even Ortiz, could win 20 games. When you are quick to dismiss ANY possibilty that the Giants could make moves like these, you buy into the theory that everyone is informed and makes well thought out decisions.

Cashman makes plenty of mistakes. Refusing to grab Beltran and then having to sign the hugely less valuable Damon one season later is but one of the miscues he's been part of. You don't think he could hear Sabean say I'll give you two ML starters AND a ML third baseman and decide that that's a good starting point? I sure do.
