When the Giants Come to Town, It's Bye-Bye Baby

Post-Game 6/26: Tip the Cap

Pads 3, Giants 2 in 10 innings. Randy Messenger looked untouchable, and Kevin Kouzmanoff hit a fastball down and away over the center field fence. Tip your cap and move on… to complaints about the Giants offense. Yet again. I take it back, though. The Giants hit balls hard into bad luck and had some good at-bats. Ray Durham would have had a grand slam in the 4th in practically any other park. Feliz struck out in the 9th with two on against Meredith, but gave him a good battle. Nate Schierholtz hit a bullet off Hoffman in the 10th, but right at Giles. Dave Roberts is thrown out stealing to end the game. Only half a grumble about that; it’s hard to argue with sending him, just ask anyone in Boston. So it goes. Beat ‘em tomorrow, and it’s two straight series wins.

PLODAG: The Good Barry Z. Except for a hanging changeup to Khalil Spicoli, he showed up tonight and pitched a beautiful game.

Spicoli reference, glad I'm not the only one who compared the two when we first met Khalil a couple of years ago.

Not saying I'm positive, but I thought the pitch that Kouz hit out was just above mid thigh and caught a good bit of the plate.
On the steal, that was just the luck of the draw. On the previous pitch (damn, would've we called the steal on that pitch) it was a breaking ball in the dirt that C coudn't handle> Then, when Roberts runs, it's a belt high fast ball, soooo easy to catch and throw. And therein lie the results.

I too thought that the pitch Kouz hit out caught most of the plate. The type of pitch with no movement that you're suppossed to hit hard. I also agree that Randy looked good but that's what Major league hitters do when sitting on a pitch (Pedro should try to alway look for a first pitch fastball as I never ever understand him swinging at breaking pitches off the plate when he doesn't have a single strike on him yet). I don't know why we waited to run with Roberts as I thought he'd go right away and apply pressure with two outs. It would have given Winn the best opportunity to drive him in as I had little confidence in Durham doing it with the way he's going. Maybe Bochy would have pinch hit Lowry for Durham if it had gotten that far :)

Spicoli? I think he looks more like Jan Brady.

Re. Messenger's pitch: watch the video replay on sfgiants.com. It wasn't a perfect pitch, but it would have hit the target Molina set. It was a pretty good pitch, and Kouzmanoff beat it with an excellent swing. That's some serious power to go yard straight away like that.

I haven't seen the replay except once on Sportscenter but someone taller than Roberts may have had a chance to bring it in. Actually thought he misread it just a bit, kind of paused before the warning track and jump a 1/2 second too late or he might have had it (hell he looked in his glove afterward).
