When the Giants Come to Town, It's Bye-Bye Baby

Post-Game 7/26: Century Mark

Giants 4, Braves 2: One hundred games gone, 62 to go. The Giants are on track for a 70–92 season.

You know what was cool about today’s game? Not just Lincecum pitching well, but also Bochy letting Jack Taschner pitch the 8th in a pressure situation just a week or so after The Special Agent was on the cusp of a demotion for stinking up the joint. Boch gets cool points in my book. If Taschner goes on to have a couple good years, I’ll give Bochy much credit.

You know what else was cool? Giants pitchers: 10 K, 2 BB.

PLODAG: Dave Roberts, three more hits. He’s raised his averages from .203/.276/.246 on July 1 to .258/.322/.352. It stands to reason that the elbow problem that required surgery was bothering him more than he let on, and now he’s finally healthy. If he can get his OBP into the .360 range by the end of the year, he’s made himself useful. Nice to see what happens when a real leadoff guy does his job well.

I am very impressed by Bochy's bullpen management; the faith he has in these pitchers has to be helping their confidence.

Yeah, it's time to start hoping for some positive regression to the mean. There's not an All-Star in the bunch, but it is not unrealistic to expect Durham, Roberts, and Aurilia to suck considerably less next season.

Yes, I love the way Bochy doesn't put guys in doghouse after a bad outing, he just puts them back out there until he proves Bochy wrong over a number of appearances.

I would also note in regards to Roberts that he was rushed back after Lewis went down, he probably needed time to get his timing back in terms of batting but came off the DL without any rehab.

I would add Vizquel to the not suck list but take Durham off, he hasn't really shown anything this season, I thought re-signing him was a great deal, but now it's looking like he's taking the year off or something. If we can find someone to take him on, I'd be willing to do it in a nano-second.

I would happily take anything for any of those three players, ogc, I just mention them because their performance and contracts make them very unlikely to be moved. Even if Durham is "taking the year off," I really don't have much recourse but to hope he shows up for next season.
