Mike Krukow and Duane Kuiper have interviewed Bonds in a way only former players could interview him — some questions that get to the heart of the game, and some puffy softballs — and although his stream of consciousness and syntax is as convoluted as ever, I’ve never seen him so relaxed. The multi-part video is here.
Note how large his dad looms in the way he talks about himself. He also admits getting signs relayed via cell phone from his dad, who was watching on TV, to his wife sitting in the stands. Whether or not you like listening to insider stuff on hitting, it’s a fascinating interview. Hat tip to these guys for finding it.
I loved the interview but whats up with that audio. You would think that they could at least get Kuiper miked right. After all they did spend all that time with that awesome background curtain.
I love listening to insider stuff on hitting. I find the subject of hitting way more interesting than the subject of steroids. It was refreshing to hear someone asking Bonds about how he actually plays the game.
Also fascinating, was the story Bonds told of his all time career favorite at-bat against Gagne in 2004.
