Post-Game 8/10: I Just Found Out the Name of My Best Friend

Pirates 8, Giants 7: Rajai! Rajai! Barry! Barry! Ra—– d’oh. A despicable loss thanks entirely to the bullpen. Jonathan Sanchez was the main culprit, allowing the first four batters in the 8th inning to reach; all would eventually score, plus two more. Sanchez didn’t get crushed, as all four hits were singles, three of which barely escaped Giant infielders. But that’s the power of missing bats, which Sanchez didn’t do tonight. Strike people out, and their bloopers and bleeders can’t evade anyone. Oh well.

Question: does anyone think Sanchez is ready to step into the rotation next year as the fifth starter?

PLODAG: Don’t blame me; I voted for Rajai Davis. Is this his Mike Benjamin moment, or is he going to be a real leadoff hitter for our humble squad? Davis notched a single, double, triple and walk tonight, plus a stolen base, bringing his Giants total to 10–for-22 with four extra base hits, four walks, and five-for-five in stolen bases.

SMALL PRINT UPDATE: Misch down to Fresno, Ortiz up.

Trade our young, ineffective pitching now! Trade Sanchez, trade Lowry, trade Misch! Perhaps we can get a grip of young players for them, and we can go forward with trying to rebuild the franchise. Hanging on to marginal young pitching is no way to move forward.

No, I think Misch is a better bet than Sanchez right now. But put Sanchez as a starter in AAA next season and keep him there all year or until he figures things out.

I love how everyone has Rajai penciled in as the leadoff hitter for next year. This, after a couple good games. Reminds me of the hype around Fred Lewis after he hit that granny a few months back.

Wait until he goes hitless in 18 consecutive at bats and then let's talk. It's not that I don't want him to emerge as a legit leadoff man, but come one, can the Pirates scouts be that incompetent?

Jobu - "can the Pirates scouts be that imcompetent?"

Yes, they wanted Matt Morris.

Really? Who? I have him penciled in very lightly as a backup OF/platooner, starting against LHP and otherwise pinch-running a lot. Anything beyond that is gravy.

The radio guys have him penciled him as the leadoff guy.

And, if Rajai can make more catches like he made tonight, I do too.

That was sweet.
