Pirates 8, Giants 7: Rajai! Rajai! Barry! Barry! Ra—– d’oh. A despicable loss thanks entirely to the bullpen. Jonathan Sanchez was the main culprit, allowing the first four batters in the 8th inning to reach; all would eventually score, plus two more. Sanchez didn’t get crushed, as all four hits were singles, three of which barely escaped Giant infielders. But that’s the power of missing bats, which Sanchez didn’t do tonight. Strike people out, and their bloopers and bleeders can’t evade anyone. Oh well.
Question: does anyone think Sanchez is ready to step into the rotation next year as the fifth starter?
PLODAG: Don’t blame me; I voted for Rajai Davis. Is this his Mike Benjamin moment, or is he going to be a real leadoff hitter for our humble squad? Davis notched a single, double, triple and walk tonight, plus a stolen base, bringing his Giants total to 10–for-22 with four extra base hits, four walks, and five-for-five in stolen bases.
SMALL PRINT UPDATE: Misch down to Fresno, Ortiz up.
Trade our young, ineffective pitching now! Trade Sanchez, trade Lowry, trade Misch! Perhaps we can get a grip of young players for them, and we can go forward with trying to rebuild the franchise. Hanging on to marginal young pitching is no way to move forward.
