Giants 4, Cubs 1: When Matt Cain arrived at the park this morning and saw that both Rich Aurilia and Ray Durham were in the lineup, he realized he needed to drive in more runs than he would allow to the Cubs. And so he did. Best taunt of the day: “Carlos, you can’t handle the contract!”
Couldn't be happier that Wilson is pitching the way he is, if nothing more than to kill this talk of Cain moving to closer. What a waste that would be...
It's idiotic that anyone is thinking of using Cain as a closer, and scary that some of that talk is coming from Giants management. I've been supportive up to now, but the key to winning in the future is having a great staff, and with Lincecum, Cain, Lowry up top and Zito now apparently finally over his big contract, we have a killer rotation.
Now we need to find a closer, that's why I want Wilson closing now.
I appreciate what Hennessey has done but I hope he really didn't think that he could be a closer long-term in his career. But if him pitching well in the roles gets us a better prospect in trade, I would be OK with that. We need a high powered strikeout artist in the closer position, and Wilson should be in there doing it and seeing what happens.
Yeah, he walks a lot - if anyone has noticed, the season is over, let's check out the real prospects, not the guys keeping the seat warm.
Elbo, I think it might have been Michael Barrett, via a long distance video conference call to the giant TV screen in CF.
I never gave much creedence to the Cain-as-closer rumblings. I took them as background comments taken out of context by a reporter (I can imagine the interview: Schulman: "So, Sabes, would you ever consider doing what the Red Sox did with Papelbon and make Cain a closer?" Sabes: "Well, theoretically, we have to consider everyone in that role, it's just part of what we do, but it would be hard to move him out of the rotation." Next morning's Chron: "Giants sources say they are considering Matt Cain for the closer role.")

Who lobbed that taunt at Carlos, anyway?
