When the Giants Come to Town, It's Bye-Bye Baby

Post-Games 8/13: Splitsville

Pirates 3, Giants 1 // Giants 10, Pirates 3: I listened to much of the first game but missed the second. Today’s conspiracy theory: before the first game, the home plate umpire told both teams he would feature a strike zone the width of the Monongahela to speed the game along. He also spelled Monongahela to show off.

Both teams panicked and swung at anything close. The Giants being the Giants, they scored fewer runs than the opponent. Matt Cain being Matt Cain, he had just enough control problems to walk two batters in the first inning and ensure his 13th loss despite a 3.77 ERA. So it goes.

The only Giantesque thing I look forward to on days when Lincecum isn’t pitching is Rajai Davis. I was late for the gym this afternoon but waited through Kragen and Shane Co. jewelers ads because Davis was leading off the next inning. I want to hear what he does. Today, in the two games combined: 3–for-8 with a walk, three doubles, two stolen bases, an RBI and a terrific catch while I wasn’t paying attention.

Ditto on Rajai...I don't know what to expect from the kid long term...but watching him play makes watching the rest of the Giants an even trade.

Yeah, with the team going nosedive despite playing the worse NL teams around, Rajai has been the only breath of fresh air in the offense, make you kind of wish Roberts was DLed so that Rajai could start full-time for an extended period.

I still look forward to the starts by our young starting rotation, and wished they could have fit Misch into the rotation and go with a 6 man rotation for a little while during this long stretch of starts. But I guess they needed the bullpen full too.

I still anticipate each Zito start, hoping he can get his ERA down to something acceptable, but it is becoming much like Bart Simpson when he shocks himself on this device on top of the bookshelves, and, refusing to believe that he would get shocked again, touches it over and over and over again.

We haven't had this much fun at the top of the lineup since Brett Butler.

There's nothing better than a guy who sees an outfielder slow to field a ball and turns a single into a double.

FYI: someone kindly noted at my site that BA reported that Wendell Fairley signed with the Giants for $1M, $10K over slot. That's basically the news on him, nothing on where he'll be going or any other details. Start spreading da news...
