Padres 6, Giants 4: How fitting that in Matt Cain’s last start of the year, he
gives up two runs in seven strong innings, and the bullpen blows it for him. A guy behind me in the bleachers cursed Bruce Bochy for making Brian Wilson pitch more than an inning. Please.
Curse Bochy instead for not putting Barry Bonds in the game, even as a pinch-hitter. This morning’s reports said Bonds hit BP Monday and looked OK. There were at least a couple moments in tonight’s game that were Barry-appropriate. Needless to say I wasn’t at the edge of my seat all night waiting for that key Scott McClain at-bat.
Fine, so Barry will start Wednesday. What about the 35,000 who went tonight hoping at least to give him one last standing O? I have to wonder if Bonds didn’t play because Bonds didn’t feel like it. If so: Weak.
PLODAG: Matty Cain Cain. See you next year, big guy. Work on your swing over the winter if you want more offensive help next year. (Photo credit: David Paul Morris of the SF Chronicle. Buy the paper. That's why I usually steal, er, post photos from the sfgiants.com site, I figure I'm promoting them anyway. :^)
Yeah, that's his season in a nutshell, Murphy's Law in action: whatever can go wrong, will. I couldn't believe how the game ended, if I were Cain, I would be worried there was a voodoo doll somewhere that's being pricked everytime he starts (Jason Schmidt? :^)
Yeah, can't really blame Brian Wilson.
And Yeah, I like Molina but really, that last at-bat, 2 men on 1st and 2nd, only 1 out, Barry should have been batting there instead.
