When the Giants Come to Town, It's Bye-Bye Baby

Barry Bonds is appearing next month for a Q&A at the Commonwealth Club in downtown S.F. His conversation mate is KGO’s Ray Talliaferro, who does the graveyard talk-show shift. According to his Web site, Talliaferro “literally owns” the overnight radio audience, which is so awesome it literally blows my mind.

Barry won’t be in uniform, but I bet he sees a lot of softballs tossed his way. Has anyone heard Talliaferro? Is he likely to ask Bonds interesting questions?

That's going to be a total love-fest. Ray hearts Barry with the warm fuzzy intensity of a truckload of puppies.

I'd hoped my employer might get to shoot the video of this event (we post a ton of Commonwealth Club videos) but there are some contractual issues with the venue, so it's a no-go. I'm pretty sure audio streams are offered through the CWC's website.

Talliaferro is an ultra-liberal, and I once heard him pretty much savage Richard Perle in an interview, so I don't think he's one to toss softballs.

I've heard Ray interview him on KGO before, and it was the most pro-Barry bit of fluff journalism I'd ever heard. I wouldn't be surprised if Barry's people specifically requested him for this event.

Where did the Barry / Richard Perle parallel come in? Steroids may be bad news, but lordy, they're not that bad.

Ha. I wasn't drawing a parallel, I figured that if Ray didn't hold back the tough questions on one controversial figure, he might not with another.

Yeah, I know. :) Just thought it was funny you brought up Richard Perle specifically, since I'd imagine Barry and Perle lie pretty much on the opposite ends of Ray's good / evil spectrum. That guy hates neoconservatives.

I can't imagine Barry & Co. would allow an unknown entity to interview him. He only sits down one-on-one with the friendlies: Kruk and Kuip, Barry Bloom (hard-hitting journalist!), uh...that's about it.
