When the Giants Come to Town, It's Bye-Bye Baby

The Instant Tao of Zito

As first noted here, Barry Zito is on Twitter. He is tweeting. He tweets. His feed started out as if written by the Giants’ marketing staff:

Just wrapped up the most amazing few days in San Fran at Fanfest. Loved it and Love our fans! (Feb 7)

the relationships with my teammates are unique because we got each other's backs in a way that we don't encounter outside the game.... (Feb 18)

But he’s starting to air it out:

Got a pair of Heely's today (those wheel shoes thingies)...one step closer on the journey of being more childlike. (Mar 19)

how does it happen that the best experiences are always the one's that are free? a good laugh, a warm embrace, a day in nature... (about 22 hours ago)

Is the better way to see our own light and help illuminate as we can, or just be ourselves and let others reflect it back? (about 8 hours ago)

It’s easy to mock, but turn it around for a second: How many professional athletes even try to think abstractly or philosophically? In short bursts, Zito sounds like he’s reading from workplace motivational posters, but at least the guy’s trying. Of course, he’s also capable of stuff like this:

Just pitched and it's gettin hot in AZ. Destination sun tan!

To celebrate the newly liberated Tao of Barry, I invite you to fashion your own mashup haiku from his Twitter feed. I’ll start:

wondering if microwaves
feel of my changeup
I love pizza with red wine

Can we terminate the contract based on the Heelys admission? Can't be safe. I think we just found our loophole.

Ever read any of Doug Glanville's stuff? He's a really good writer. Love his columns.
