Don't Just Stand There, Buster, Move!

Vote 0 Votes

You want it? You got it. Oh baby, you've got it. As expected, Buster Posey has moved on up to Triple A Fresno. If he gets shot down 'cuz he's overzealous, it might be hard to get the ladies jealous.

But if he goes bananas in Triple A for a month and a half, he might sip a few cups of coffee at Mays Field in September. And if he has great at-bats and impresses everyone with his rookie veteranish gamery savviness and saves the children as well as the children's whales and says "Gosh!" and calls Sue Burns "Ma'am," then, ladies and gentlemen, señoras y señores, welcome to the Giants' most intriguing personnel decision of the off-season.

If Buster is ready in 2010, does he start? Does he join the team as a backup? If he's the backup, does Pablo Sandoval become the starter for a while to let Buster settle in? Or do the Giants not mess with a good thing, leave Panda at third and bring in a grizzled vet to babysit Posey for a year? Or does the team try to sign Bengie Molina to a one-year extension?

Unless Posey proves between now and April that he absolutely positively without a doubt deserves to be the 2010 starting catcher, the Giants will still have a Bengie-sized puzzle to solve. So let's discuss: What does Posey have to do to claim the Opening Day job behind the plate next year? And if he doesn't, who should be the starter?
