Whenever a non-Giants team makes a trade for a player who, if you squint real hard, seems like he might have helped the Giants, someone, somewhere will explode with rage, sprinkling capital letters and a forest of exclamation points across the Internet like spittle on your monitor.
I have no idea if anyone’s going apoplectic because the Giants couldn’t beat the Red Sox’s offer of two weak prospects for Adam LaRoche. But if any of you feel rage and panic rising, Officer Malo is pre-emptively issuing you a license to chill. You have the right to remain suave.
LaRoche is a pretty good hitter. LaRoche is not a great fielder. LaRoche hits left-handedly. LaRoche is walking into free agency in October. He might be an incremental upgrade over Travis Ishikawa, but the Giants need help more from the right side of the plate and at other positions. Remember, Pablo Sandoval can always slide over to first base.
Adam LaRoche: Do Not Want.
The good news: If Pittsburgh is willing to take a couple of ho-hum prospects for LaRoche, the price tag for Freddie Sanchez can’t be too much higher. But I’m still lukewarm on Sanchez, at best.
