8/21: 1-2-3

Giants 6, Rockies 3
: If you weren't a Giant fan in the late 1990s, tonight's seventh inning probably didn't have you so freaked out your teeth were squeaking. But even with a 6-1 lead late in the game, the sight of Todd Helton at the plate with the bases loaded conjured up memories of terrible, unspeakable, unholy happenings in Satan's Rockpile, losses beyond blown, hearts beyond broken.

And all Jeremy Affeldt did was go to a full count -- goodbye enamel, hello dentist's office -- and have Helton hit a comebacker and a 1-2-3 double play to end the inning. It was the biggest pitch of the year and equaled the drama of Pablo Sandoval's home run last weekend off Johan Santana. That's entertainment.

Would it be anti-climactic to complain about the Giants' inability to push their lead beyond 6-1 in the late innings with three primo opportunities that resulted in zippo? Yes? OK, never mind.
