8/26: If You Don't Love Bengie By Now, You Will Never Never Love Him. Ooooh.

Giants 4, D-Backs 3: The Dodgers have their Kirk Gibson moment. The Giants have Bengie Molina. Improbable, unwinnable, unthinkable. Bengie cranks a pinch-hit, 3-run homer in the bottom of the 8th to give the Giants the lead, he limps around the bases, and grown men (who shall remain unnamed) cry in their kitchens. More later. Obscure bonus musical reference here. Enjoy. (I'd like to see Bengie in one of those jumpsuits.)

Thoughts later: I'd love to hear what Bochy haters think of the move to pinch-hit Molina for Garko in the 8th. Did you groan when Bengie walked to the plate? (I did, but then I thought, Wow, that's a crazy gut call.) Was it a bad decision with a lucky outcome?

Another thought: What makes a very good pitcher throw a terrible pitch? Qualls had Molina 0-2; Qualls has a nasty slider and wanted to throw it down and away, and he hung it. Was Qualls unlucky? How many times out of ten would a batter hit that pitch to the warning track, or on a line into the left fielder's glove? Or on one hop to an outfielder, scoring a run but still leaving the team a long way from the lead? Four? Six? Eight? Was it a drop of sweat on Qualls' finger that caused the ball to spin in place? A slightly greater amount of pressure in one of his fingers? How do these things happen?

Final thought: Justin Miller for the win. Brandon Medders for the save.
