Giants 10, Rockies 2: Carney Lansford is finally getting through to these palookas. Sheesh.
But seriously, I wonder if this is the most runs -- 26 -- the Giants have scored over three consecutive games this year. I'm exhausted so someone else go look it up. I'll give you a dollar. Notice how every time a Giant walked tonight -- four times in all -- that Giant scored. Notice how Ubaldo Jimenez threw 92 pitches in less than three innings. Work him hard, knock him out. That won't happen often, no matter how tenacious the opposing lineup is. Jimenez is that good. But when it mattered most, the Giants made him look like a nervous rookie.
I just heard on the radio that Justin Miller is out for the year with an elbow problem, and Randy Johnson has been activated to replace him. Welcome back, Big Unit. And note that Johnson will be eligible for the post-season, if it comes to that. Also, a huge Malo Gracias to Miller, who arguably was the best long man in the majors this year. He wobbled in the last month, starting with the series in Colorado and especially The Loss That Shall Not Be Named Or Even Linked To. But I'll link to this, his game by game log. Show some respect and take a minute to see what a fine year he had. According to Baseball Prospectus, he added nearly half a win to the team's fortunes, a nice payoff for a scrap-heap non-roster guy and the last man in the bullpen.
