Giants 4, Phillies 0: Every night -- every single goddamn night -- the Giants opponent is in danger of being completely shut down. Lincecum, Cain, we know about them. Zito? If you're reading this in New York or Atlanta and you haven't really paid attention, he's back. Sanchez threw a no-hitter in July, and any given night he could again, though it's still more likely he'll throw 120 pitches in 5 innings. And now Brad Penny. Perhaps I'm being too optimistic. But it's not like he came back to the National League and handcuffed the Padres on a foggy July night with Adrian Gonzalez retching back at the hotel with the flu. He marched right into the Phillies' House of Cheap Dingers and made all them power hitters beg for singles. Ain't we got fun?
More than you realize. It's time for Lefty's Fun with Numbers Corner:
Pitcher A: 172 IP / 219 H / 51 BB / 122 K / 25 HR / 6.22 ERA
Pitcher B: 19 IP / 12 H / 2 BB / 17 K / 0 HR / 0.47 ERA
It's not really a fair comparison, as Pitcher A has started 35 games this year, and Pitcher B only three. Any guesses?
SMALL PRINT UPDATE: To make room for Posey and Runzler, the Giants DFA'ed Ryan Sadowski and Jesse English. I assume both will be picked up by other organizations. Thanks for the good times, Big Sadowski. I hope you don't forget it, either.
