After the Boys of Summer Are Gone...
Sorry for the dead air lately, folks. A family wedding, tons of work, and a bit of travel (I'm on the East Coast at the moment) have all conspired against me. I missed the Angel Villalona news. Let's hope the Dominican police got the wrong man. I missed the Brad Penny implosion, too, though I peeked into a bar and just happened to see the fateful hanging changeup to Ronnie Belliard.
Unless the Giants stage a miracle, the talk from here on out should focus on how much Bochy plays the young 'uns. Tonight's lineup with Randy Winn hitting third, yet again, doesn't give me much hope. I'll make my definitive pronouncements on Sabean and Bochy after the final game of the year, but right now I agree with Bill Neukom's comment in his KNBR interview the other day that these last few games are part of the evaluation, too. Speaking of evaluations, I think we can add Dan Runzler to the list of bullpen candidates next year.
And if the Giants fall farther behind in the next few days, the Giants should seriously consider skipping Tim Lincecum's next start or at least getting him on a short pitch count. From the reports, it sounded like fatigue was a problem Sunday, and there's no sense in messing with that.
As I type this the Giants have just bumbled away their short-lived lead in Arizona. Juan Uribe giveth and taketh away.
Uh-oh: I also just saw the Freddie Sanchez news. Sheesh. Apart from looking like a bad injury, which is never anything to wish upon anyone, it doesn't look good for Sabean, who rolled the dice by trading Alderson for a gimpy Sanchez and basically came up empty. And if Bochy uses this as an excuse to put Renteria back in the lineup instead of giving Kevin Fransden at-bats, it'll literally add insult to injury.
Frandsen would be as bad a move as Renteria. The correct move is to play Velez at 2B freeing up LF for a platoon of Lewis and Torres.
I don't know if that't the right move either. The announcers were very impressed with Velez's play in LF yesterday.
And who cares about Torres, he's not going to be a starter next season. And they should know what Lewis can do too.
If anyone should play LF if we move Velez to 2B, it should be Bowker.
I agree w/OGC. Move Velez to 2B and give Bowker more ABs. Another way to do so is to sit Rowand and slide Velez to CF. As for Torres, no more evaluation is needed. He's earned a spot in 2010 as a backup OF.
sit Rowand for sure! Too bad it wont happen until they are elininated. How about Rowand for Milton Bradley straight up?Even if he is a bust we save around 12 million.

no way Long Ball..not in a million years. Bradley is garbage...
Torres can play, I would rather have him in center, Nate in right, and Velez at second. I think they should play Fred Lewis to build some confidence and see if they can wipe away this year or at least begin trying to increase his value, go with this outfield for most days. Bowker could get some starts as well, but Posey has to play now...
Sanchez is soft. I'm already tired of him. Rowand for anybody works for me.
I have seat cushions for Molina, Sanchez, Renteria, Rowand and Winn. Grab some pine, Meat!!
Please send 'em a "one way" plane ticket instead.
Bochy will play his beloved, spoiled veterans to the bitter end.
Really, what is giving Kevin Frandsen at-bats going to prove, solve, accomplish? Have you seen this guy hit? Seriously, you can't insert AAA numbers and argue he is a major league hitter. He hasn't hit, and whether he is in his head about it or not, the guy can't even get a bunt down. Not that I'm arguing to see more Renteria at-bats, but unless you are trying to increase this guys trade value somehow, who are you people that think Frandsen has been screwed somehow by not getting playing time? He looks like a ball-player, but I see no actual evidence. And I watch 'em all. The games and the players.

Fuck it give him a shot.Let him burm himself.we watched that pathetic Emanuel Buriss get a few hundred at bats.frandsens ego is so big that he at least thinks he can hit! that is half the battle isnt it?If he rakes then it will make us better if he doesnt..RELEASE him!renteria is done for the year.
Hey, I like Burris.
By the way, Burris is one of the best base stealers we've got (11 steals out of 15 attempts for a 73 percent success rate). Your blind--or at least have a stigmatism in one eye--if you can't see that spped is useful on a team that scores only 3.5 runs a game on the road.
He needs to get on base first! We already have a bunch of those guys. If you like Buriss,I would suggest you get tickets to the Fresno Grizzlies because he is pretty much done in SF.I guess the rest of baseball is blind as well because knowbody was interested in him at all!
I think it is a little sillt to just give up on someone so young and still learning how to play...he has a better glove than Frandsen, Renteria or Uribe..that is for sure.
Burriss will be a big-leaguer..not everyone has all the big league skills as rookies, let's not give up on him unless we can land a cleanup hitter...
73% is a horrible success rate for a good basestealer. He would be good if he's at 90%+. 73% is probably barely passable for a basestealer, if not costing you more outs and runs, than creating runs.
Wonder if the Brewers would take Runzler (just hate to lose him), J. Sanchez, and Fred or Ish for Prince and Hardy?
I'm not sure how I'd like it, but this team needs a dramatic move.
I was thinking about a package that included prince and casey mcgehee who is going to be fighting for pt with matt gamel at third with milwaukee. I would even give up cain for these two guys as mcgehee has had a great rookie year batting around .300 all season and he can also play 2B which would give us the flexibility to not resign sanchez. Hardy just isnt consistent and this year and last hasnt been much better then renteria.
bottom line is that unless they let sabean go, deals like this are not going to happen simply because he is incapable of not getting taken advantage of by other gm's. when other gm's see sabeans number on the caller ID their mouths start to water because they know he has no leverage whatsoever and sabean realizes this too which in turn keeps him from getting deals going because he cant break down other gm's defenses and get them to compromise much like what happened when he called the indians inquiring about VMart and somehow ended up with Garko.
