When the Giants Come to Town, It's Bye-Bye Baby

1950

Three games to one. Three games to one. A Phillies-Yankees World Series is nearly a lock, which no doubt has Fox executives wetting their pants in anticipation. The only other time the two teams met in the Series was 1950. The Yanks swept in four low-scoring games, with only two home runs between the two teams (Berra, DiMaggio). This is fun. Watch 'til the end for the weird batting practice drill.

* Go check out AZ Giants, replete with game summaries, videos and superb photos of Giant youth playing in the desert. First day up, the blog featured video of top draft pick Zack Wheeler on the mound.

* One question to ponder as you see all the trade and free-agent suggestions thrown around this winter -- the Giants should sign this guy or trade for that guy -- is not just whom to get, but how many runs do the Giants really need to score next year? More on this later.

Go Phillies!

About 50 more runs to get to 93 wins, which should be good enough to get into playoffs in 2010. Though if Zito can repeat and Sanchez do it for a whole season, we can maybe get that down to 45 more runs scored.

I HATE the Dodgers. Hate their guts and livers. Posey doesn't look too good in the video?

Nice smooth delivery from what I could tell through the chain linked fence and with the hand held camcorder. Looked like Wheeler had pretty good control although he left a few pitches up and those seemed to be the ones that the batters made contact on while when he keeps it down they swing and miss. If all goes as planned this kid should be ready for 2011 right? So we could concievably have Cain, Timmy, Zito, Sanchez, Bumgarner, and Wheeler battling for spots in the rotation in 2011 which is great and all but wouldn't it make sense to figure out which one is going to get us the most on the trade market and go after a bat or two?

Thats right! and it should be Cain you will get the most for him.It is a little risky but he is going to be too exspensive to sign in 2 years and I am not completely sold on him. Also, you have a chance to package a bad contract with him. He is cheap right now and that can help to unload Rowand or Renteria.Sign Penny!!! Did anyone else notice that Cain was lousy the last 6-8 weeks????

It would be good to remember that if the offensive improvements come from players who are defensive liabilities, that will hurt runs given up and there would need to be an even larger improvment in runs scored.

A hell of a lot more runs than this past season! (26th out of 30 MLB teams.) Or, 100 more runs than we allow.
