Lincecum Signs for Two Years, $23 M

Vote 0 Votes

The news broke a few hours ago. Lincecum gets $8 M this year, $13 M next year, and a $2 M signing bonus. Baggs wonders what the Cy Young bonus clauses will be. Perhaps that's why Lincecum and his agent settled on a two-year deal after rejecting a reported three-year, $37 M deal. It also makes me wonder if agent Thurman realized Lincecum was going to lose the arb case. Because winning it would have guaranteed, barring injury, a two-year payout north of $23 M. ($13 M for 2010 and the subsequent fat raise for 2011.) And losing it would have meant $8 M this year, no signing bonus, no award bonuses. I think Baggs is onto something.

In my salary list to the right, I'm marking down Lincecum for $9 M: the base, plus half the signing bonus.
