Ah, yes. Spring training. Stories of players in the best shape of their lives; stories of players who vow to leave behind bad habits; stories of fresh blood making a big difference; players fumbling to explain their secret surgeries.
And that's just day one with the Giants. Every cliche in the pantheon du printemps issued forth today. My favorite quote was here, from Mark DeRosa:
"If it's the late innings and we need a baserunner and (the Giants' hitter) swings at the first pitch and grounds out, that's the time I'll voice my opinion," DeRosa said. "You need to be told, and it's not always the manager (who needs to do the telling)"You hear that, Velez? DeRosa's gonna yell at you! You -- hey! Stop hacking! It's easy to mock, but at least the Giants are saying all the right things about ending the hack-fest of the past few years. Everyone's entitled to their first-day-of-spring delusions. What's your favorite?
