Boy, did the Giants need that win today. A series loss that included a poor showing by Tim Lincecum to start this homestand would've been cruel. To come back from a two-run deficit in the late innings with a short bench (the team has 13 pitchers for the moment) was extralicious. Freddy Sanchez looked fantastic in the field and at the plate, by the way. Great hands on bad hops, great footwork and glove-hand exchanges on double plays, great range, a great eye at the plate. Great great great.
Driving home late last night, I caught ten minutes of Sportsphone 68 and had the amazing fortune to hear a caller wonder if Timmy's been hitting the bong before games. "There's been a little lack of focus," he said, or something to that effect. I didn't pull over and write it down. It reminded me why I hate sports-talk radio and find myself listening to it. I cleansed my soul by catching bits of today's game on both radio and TV, with Jon Miller at one point lamenting the gray skies and quoting lyrics from Randy Newman's "I Think It's Going to Rain Today."
Joe Buck could probably quote Billy Joel or John Bon Jovi. Randy Newman? Not so much.
