The Top Giant Prospect?

Vote 2 Votes

Who is the top Giant prospect in the minors?  Most would say Posey or Bumgarner but I wouldn't be surprised if a guy named Brandon Belt moved past them and became the starting first baseman next season on the big squad.  His current line at high A San Jose is 408/522/662 for an OPS of 1.184!!  Not too small a sample either;  92 PA.  And this is his first season in pro ball!  The 22 year old was a fifth round selection in last year's draft.  He is listed at 6'5" 195 and is a lefty all the way.

The Giant brass won't like his 18.5% walk rate but it gives me a woody.  On top of that he has stolen 7 bases.  There is no downside here.

He is obviously too good for A+.  I can see him whizzing through AA and finishing the season in Fresno.

Next season?  There was another first baseman, George Highpockets Kelly, who said, "It's great to be young and be a Giant."
