Buster Posey: More Squatting, Please

I wrote this two weeks ago:

Buster's not going anywhere. Yes, he's doing a nice job at first base, but it's time to start putting a real transition plan in place. It'll be easier for Bochy to ease out Molina if there's a superficially logical pattern (Posey is hitting .675 in weekday games!) or an inescapable phenomenon to blame, akin to Whiteside's apparent mind-meld with Sanchez.... Because Boch, the veteran junkie, isn't going cold turkey, here's a recommendation: Bengie catches Lincecum and Cain, Posey catches Zito and Wellemeyer (or later in the year, Bumgarner), and Whiteside continues to caddy for Jonathan Sanchez. Let's do that through June.
Yesterday, after Bochy told reporters Posey would catch Joe Martinez's start on Saturday, Andy Baggarly speculated the transition was soon coming. Now Bochy has filled in more of the details:

But Bochy said that Posey, who has started only one game behind the plate for San Francisco, will catch "at least once a week, if not once through the [pitching] rotation." That plan will go into effect Saturday, when Posey is expected to form San Francisco's battery with right-hander Joe Martinez aganist the Boston Red Sox.

Bochy reiterated that Posey has been trying to sharpen his receiving skills by catching the starters' between-starts bullpen sessions and performing drills.
The Giants have been rather deliberate, certainly more so than many Busterphiles have wanted, but I still think Posey's on track to catch a majority of SF's games by the end of July. Given his lack of experience behind the plate, it'll be an impressive transition if he can do it well.

Meanwhile, Matt Cain is having had a very rare, very bad day in Houston. Unless the Giants mount a stirring comeback, they'll limp out of Houston and into the toughest stretch of games so far this year.
