SF 5, CHC 4: Patrick the Stick

Pat Burrell does it again. Boy, I'd like to find the idiot who wrote this on June 1, just after the Giants signed Burrell to a minor-league contract:

Pat Burrell??? As with any potential Jonathan Sanchez trade, I'd like to think the Giant brass knows exactly what they're getting into. Burrell is insurance, nothing more. He needs to hit in AAA and keep hitting. Mark DeRosa needs to opt for season-ending wrist surgery. Buster Posey needs to be given every chance to prove he deserves to stay before Burrell becomes Plan B. Or C. Then and only then will Pat Burrell become a pinch-hitting, non-fielding Giant.

I would also like to apologize on behalf of the guy who wrote the "National Geographic defense" in yesterday's post headline instead of the "Wild Kingdom defense," which of course is how Burrell famously described his new team in the field. A National Geographic defense features spectacular wild animals, but also fold-out maps, photos of Himalayan glaciers, and proud native peoples. The Giants have not employed a National Geographic defense since Marvin Benard's creative cartographic centerfield expeditions in the late part of the previous century.
