I was going to call this post "The Fontenot of Youth," but he's 30 years old. If you're too lazy to look up his stats, let me sum up Fontenot this way: Imagine Nate Schierholtz, but with an infield glove and four years older. He'll get his hits, he won't hit for much power, and he's not going to work the count too hard. With Renteria back on the DL, the Giants needed non-embarrassing infield personnel, and they only had to give up a 21-year-old low-A outfielder to get Fontenot. There's the added bonus that the Giants can prevent him from hitting any more backbreaking two-run pinch-hit doubles against them. (Then again, if he's really an embedded Cub...)
He's from Slidell, which, as Lucinda-heads know, is a place you might find some joy.
As things stand, he's also a viable platoon option with Freddie Sanchez, who's been absolutely miserable against RHP this year.
