The brass is heading into meetings, but first they spent a little quality time this morning with reporters to break down the 2011 season and the off-season to come. I'll have my own post-mortem of the post-mortem later today, but first, let's start a pool. Here are the players under contract and eligible for arbitration this winter:
Santiago Casilla
Mike Fontenot
Jeff Keppinger
Tim Lincecum
Sergio Romo
Ramon Ramirez
Jonathan Sanchez
Pablo Sandoval
Nate Schierholtz
Andres Torres
Ryan Vogelsong
Eli Whiteside
Brian Sabean said this morning the Giants will not be able to bring them all back. No surprise. Here's the contest: Predict the fate of each player. Be as specific as you want, such as:
Ramon Ramirez -- Avoids arbitration, signs 4-year, $36 million contract.
Or
Eli Whiteside -- not offered a contract, declines a minor-league assignment, moves to Shanghai to open a baseball academy.
Whoever comes closest to predicting the group's status as of Opening Day 2012 wins a day or night at the ballpark with me in the 1-3-8. One complimentary seat, one complimentary beer or non-beer of your choice, lots of free baseball talk. Contest rules: Your predictions must be in the comments of this blog post so we can all see them, and they must be posted by end of day tomorrow (11:59pm Pacific time Friday), which gives us all a chance to see the tweets, reports, rumors and speculations that stem from today's press conference and meetings (such as Bochy saying the 2012 right field job is Schierholtz's to lose). You also must have good manners and decent personal hygiene if I'm to sit next to you for nine innings.
I'll throw my own predictions down a bit later. If no one beats me, I'll pick from among the entries as I see fit.
