Why "El Lefty Malo"? I was pitching for my high school on a summer trip to Mexico somewhere near Guadalajara, I think, to play ball against a few local squads. We stayed in a motel that doubled as a bordello, but what I remember most -- which tells you where my head was at those days -- were the two drunks who heckled me as I pitched in what was otherwise an empty tumbledown wooden stadium. "Lefty malo!" they shouted. "Ey, Lefty malo!" We won the game, but the nickname stuck.
